|Owen Doogan has a Rail background in our industry as a Guard and studied IR part time before becoming the Industrial Officer with the ARU (now the RTBU) in February 1991.|
As well as being the Industrial Officer, Owen was also the Training Officer and developing a comprehensive delegate training structure for the Branch.
He was also at the forefront of the industry training restructure working at national and state level on the development of the industry’s competencies and their framework.
Owen was elected to the National Council of the RTBU in 1994 and to the National Executive in 2000 before being appointed as Secretary in December 2001 and being elected to that position the following year.
In 2011, Owen was elected as the National President of the Rail Tram & Bus Union and continues to hold this position. Owen is the first National President from Queensland since the RTBU was formed following the amalgamation of Rail and Bus Unions 20 years ago.
Owen has been very active in advancing the interests of workers not only in his own industry. Owen has been a member of the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) Executive since 2001 and is currently the QCU Senior Vice President.
