Levelling up in preparation for bargaining
Most of the Aurizon Coal Bargaining Team met up in Mackay this week to develop their bargaining skills.
Reps travelled from Bluff, Gladstone and Bowen to meet up with the Mackay reps for training.
Members from Freight Ops, Maintenance and Locomotive will be well represented at future bargaining sessions if the level of enthusiasm is anything to go by.

AirTrain Members continue with Roster Code of Practice discussion
This week, AirTrain union delegates Annette and Danny (who has stepped up in place of Trent) met with management from the company to discuss the Roster Code of Practice review and update.
With the recent change in management, the Roster Code of Practice meetings have somewhat stalled. However, it is encouraging that the next meeting is already scheduled for the not-so-distant future.
A newsletter went out this week with more details for members.

An RTBU Delegate's Wedding - Pat's Daughter Sophie-Rose marries Nick Hanks
We had a wedding in the union this week where Nick Hanks (RTBU Delegate and son-in-law) married Pat Grace's daughter, Sophie-Rose and in case you didn't know, Pat is the RTBU Sub-Branch Secretary in Gladstone.
But, in the beginning it was not smooth sailing when Pat met Nick.
Pat, straight up said to Nick, "You in the union lad?" He said "yes". Pat's response was "wrong union mate and if you are ever going to marry my daughter, think RTBU".
No only kidding, good story any way but Nick did marry Sophie-Rose and it sounded like it was a hoot and a perfect day for the loving couple.

Nightshift Members get together to talk EBA
This week, the night shift protection officers got together to talk about what they want to see changed in their upcoming enterprise agreement.
With less and less track time during the day in the future, night shift protection officers will likely become more and more necessary. Given the unsociable hours that these workers keep, the top of their list is increasing the night shift loading they receive. Above is delegate Sam Malcomb fueling up with member Umesh before another overnight shift.

Jeans for Genes Day is next Friday!
Traincrew Organiser Stef Whyte has been campaigning and fundraising for Jeans for Genes Day for many years now after her own son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. Last year, with YOUR help, Stef was able to raise over $10,000 for Jeans for Genes Day.
This year the goal is $12,000
One in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, and 30% of children’s hospital admissions are due to genetic disorders. Jeans for Genes day raises vital funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute who are currently establishing a new gene therapy initiative to fill the gap in Australian medicine.
Many of our friends, family and colleagues are affected by childhood disease and illness, so if you want to be involved, wear your favorite jeans on Friday 5 August and send a pic in for us to feature in next week's wrap.
