Weekly Wrap

Welcome to the weekly wrap where we take a snapshot of what’s been happening across the RTBU Qld Branch this week.

Central Queenslanders Aurizon Coal Safety Reps standing united

When you have the likes of Pat Grace, Megan Locke, Dominic Fox, Paul Clark, Amanda Brown, Rachel Hancock and Dan Van Scherpenseel standing together we think it would be stronger than any chain.

We know they always stand up for safety and we back them 100%. With the full support of our RTBU Safety Officer and our officials we all maintain high safety standards.

RTBU Cloncurry - Western strong

Tom Quadling and Chimie Moxham are proud and powerful and are more than happy to tell anyone.

Standing together and being united is the first ingredient in making a strong and powerful union. Understanding our history and cultural background is another, so thanks for dropping us the photo and showing off our great RTBU shirts.

2022 QCU Womens conference

This week, officials, delegates and activists attended the 2022 QCU Women's Conference. RTBU Women were pleased to see that the RTBU had one of the largest turnouts on the day.

The full day conference included keynote speakers and panel discussions from prominent feminist unionists who have been fighting for fairer working conditions, and an end to gender discrimination for decades. While they have made and seen fantastic progress, they urged everyone to join them, keep up the momentum and continue the hard work.

Workshops on practical ideas on how to battle gender discrimination in the workplace gave our RTBU women the confidence and tools they need to really get involved and make a difference. Many left the enjoyable day feeling inspired and empowered. A success all round!

They later attended the launch of On Her Shoulders, a history project that shines a light on the incredible women who have made such an impact on the Queensland union movement. You can learn more about the project here https://www.onhershoulders.com.au

Halliday on Holiday

Right now, Queensland Rail Train Driver, Chris Halliday is living out his trainspotter dreams in the UK. Chris has been updating us regularly with some fantastic Snaps from his travels around the country.

We were most impressed with the great selfie at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Station - Imagine having to announce that over the PA!

They weren’t all train-related pics though, there’s the odd pub and beer snap too.

We love seeing your travel pics; please continue to send them to us so we can all enjoy them together.

Union Proud in Mackay

Many a tale was told when staunch unionists Ben Voysey from Aurizon Fleet and Mitch Thompson from Queensland Rail Network caught up with Jesse Pomeroy from Sugar in Mackay recently.

Jesse was keen to talk about the many gains the Union movement had fought for and won over the years.

He summed it up by saying "Employers didn't give us conditions, we stuck together, fought and won them"

Bowen Delegates visiting their Union Office

Bowen Delegates Paul Clark and Megan Locke took the opportunity while in Brisbane representing their work locations to come and check out the Owen Doogan Organising Centre at the RTBU Brisbane office.

It's Anna Stewart Time

Left: Andrew Wickens RTBU Organiser, Middle: Chris Baillie RTBU Delegate & Right: Jodie United Workers Union Delegate
This week we had the pleasure of hosting Jodie from the United Workers Union as part of the Anna Stewart memorial project. Jodie joined Andrew out and about visiting some of our members in stations to learn a little about how the RTBU works with the rail industry and the greater community.

What is the Anna Stewart Memorial Project?
It is an affirmative action initiative that aims to provide union activists with the chance to explore the work of union officials, and unions, both within their own union and other unions.
